A recent addition to our range is the WW Dipper…the little sibling to its Big brother. This has been added to the line-up after several requests from smaller paddlers, who felt the WW Big Dipper would be too much blade for them and we knew it would balance better in the shorter lengths due to the smaller blade area. Whilst sharing the same blade profile as its namesake, it has been totally redesigned to create a paddle that is extremely capable in up to Grade 3 white water conditions, yet still being a pleasure to paddle with all day. Relatively light, strong, stiff and very durable, this paddle is the river runner’s dream.
Western Red Cedar is used for the bulk of the blade. This is a very lightweight, durable, highly stable and beautiful timber. Ash is used for the shaft outers and as stiffening strips for the blade. A Sapele spine runs from tip-to- grip, which is both strong and hard-wearing.
To toughen up and protect the blade edges and tip we use the superb Dynel composite cord…this material was developed specifically for reinforcing paddle edges and tips and has very high abrasion & impact resistance. To keep weight down whilst reinforcing the blade faces, we use a layer of 4oz S-Glass cloth finished with epoxy.
For control, we have developed a new hybrid T-grip. It is both positive & secure when needed for power moves in heavy water, whilst being tactile & comfortable for regular paddling strokes. This paddle’s blade is protected with several coats of high quality marine varnish. The shaft and grip are sealed and then finished with multiple oil coats, retaining a nice feel in the hand, whilst making for easy maintenance.
This paddle is not available in a choice of timbers.
